Batch updating movie details
An imported collection usually arrives thin: titles and years, no cast, no plots, no posters. Batch update fills the gaps for the whole collection in one run, from the same online databases the program uses when you add a movie by hand.
, or Ctrl+U.
What it can update
| Ratings only | Just the rating. Quick, and worth repeating once a year — ratings move. |
| Actors and roles only | Rebuilds the cast list with the roles. |
| All details | Everything the source knows: plot, genres, country, studio, cast, poster. |
| Media info | Re-reads the technical details from the linked video files — duration, resolution, codecs. No Internet involved. |
All movies or Selected only decides the scope. Do not change ratings protects a collection where you have replaced the public ratings with your own. Continue previous update picks up where an interrupted run stopped instead of starting from the top.
How a movie is matched
The program does not guess. It uses the URL field — the address of the page the details originally came from — so only movies that already carry a link to the selected database are updated. Anything without one is skipped and reported.
That is why a fresh import benefits from being processed the other way round: add the movies, let each one find its page once, and from then on batch update works on the whole collection.
For movies with no link yet, open the card, press Enter in the title field and pick the right result. That writes the URL, and the next batch update includes the movie.
Before you run it
Batch update overwrites what is in the cards. If you have corrected plots, translated titles or set your own genres, an All details run will replace them. Make a backup first, and prefer the narrow options — Ratings only changes one number and nothing else.
A run over a few thousand movies takes a while: every film is a request to the online database. It can be stopped at any time, and Continue previous update resumes it later.
People can be updated the same way. In the names directory, Batch details lookup fetches biographies and photos for everybody at once.
