Copying books to a device
This copies the actual book files — not the catalog — onto an e-reader, a phone, a tablet or a memory card, and arranges them in folders on the way.
- Connect the device and wait for Windows to see it.
- Select the books you want to copy.
- Choose (Ctrl+J).
- Check the list of files under Source.
- Choose the Destination. Phones and readers that appear as media devices rather than as drive letters are listed too; tick Show all available drives if the one you want is not shown.
- Decide how files should be arranged (see below) and click Start.
Folder layout on the device

| Swap first and last name | “Le Guin Ursula” instead of “Ursula Le Guin”, so that author folders sort by surname. |
The transfer can be cancelled while it runs, and starting it again after a cancelled or partial run is safe.
Rename the files first with Renaming book files. Most readers show the file name in their own library, not the metadata, so tidy names on the computer mean a tidy list on the device.
