Book tasks
This chapter is about individual books: getting them into the collection, keeping their cards correct, finding them again, lending them out, and getting them out of the program as a file or on paper.
If you are starting from nothing, the fastest routes in are the barcode scanner for a shelf of paper books and the drive scanner for a folder of e-book files.
In this chapter
- Adding a book automatically — Type a title, author or ISBN and download the whole book card from an online source.
- Adding a book by ISBN or barcode — Add books with a barcode scanner, a webcam or a typed ISBN, one at a time or in batch.
- Adding an e-book — Catalog e-book files: supported formats, metadata read from the file, opening the book from its card.
- Adding an audiobook — Catalog audiobooks, read tags and duration, and group a folder of tracks into one entry.
- Scanning a drive for books — Let the program walk your folders and add every e-book and audiobook file it finds.
- Covers and illustrations — Download a cover, take one from a file, the clipboard or a scanner, and add extra images.
- Editing a book — The book card field by field: General, Additional, Metadata, Illustrations and Custom fields.
- Batch updating book details — Refresh ratings and details for many books at once from an online source.
- Finding a book — Instant search, the quick filter, filters by mark, sorting, grouping and advanced search.
- Lending a book — Record who took a book, when it is due, get reminded, and look through the loan history.
- Renaming book files — Rename the e-book files on disk using a template built from book card fields.
- Copying books to a device — Copy e-book files to a reader, phone or tablet, sorted into folders by author or title.
- Exporting — Export the collection to HTML, CHM, PDF, Excel, plain text or to the mobile app.
- Printing — Print a single book card or the whole collection using report templates.
