Appending from another database
copies books from one All My Books collection into another. Use it to merge two catalogs, or to pull a handful of books out of an old collection.
- Open the collection that should receive the books.
- Choose
and select the source
.ambfile. - The Append database window lists every book in the source with a checkbox. Tick the ones you want; Select all, Clear all and Invert selection help with long lists, and Sort books by can order them by title, date added or date modified.
- Decide on the two options below the list:
- Do not import Book Number — leave the numbering of the target collection alone and give the incoming books new numbers.
- Delete selected books from the source base — turns the copy into a move. Use with care.
- Click OK.
Covers, authors, subjects and custom field values travel with the books. Directory entries that do not exist in the target collection are created.
Make a backup of the target collection before a large append. Undoing a merge afterwards means deleting the books one at a time.
