Editing a book
Open a book for editing with (Ctrl+E), by double-clicking it in the list, or from the right-click menu. The card has five tabs.
General
What the book is.
| Original title | The first field on the card, and the one the online search works from. Press Enter here to look the book up. |
| Title | The name you use for it. On a new card Enter here starts the same online search. |
| Author, Translator, Editor, Illustrators | People. Each is a directory entry with its own card: biography, photos, dates, bibliography. See Directories menu. |
| Year, ISBN | Publication year and number. |
| Rating | Two rows: stars for the rating that came from the online source, hearts for your own. Both are 0 to 100 and can be shown as numbers instead — see Customizing the interface. |
| Subjects | Genres and topics, main and additional. |
| Synopsis | The description. |
| Wishlist, Unread, date read | Marks that drive the quick filters. Your own flag fields appear here too. |
Additional
What the edition is: Publisher, Series and Volume, Binding, Pages, Circulation, Dimensions, Language, Contents (TOC) (the search can look inside it too), your own Comments, and the library classifications LoC and Dewey.
Metadata
What the copy is and where it is: Book number (with Assign automatically to number new books for you), Date added, Location — which shelf or which room — Price, Local path to the book file, File size, Play time for audiobooks, and URL, the address the details were downloaded from. More than one file can be linked to a book.

Custom fields
Fields you invented yourself in : free text (“bought from”, “shelf”, “condition”) and flags that can colour the books that carry them. See Setting up preferences.
Editing many books at once
Select several books in the list and choose Edit. The card opens in group mode:
- A field you fill in is written to every selected book. A field you leave alone is not touched.
- Typing
<DEL>into a field clears that field in every selected book. - Flags are three-state: grey means leave as is, ticked means set, empty means clear.
This is how you set a location for a whole shelf, or a subject for a whole series, in one action. To refresh details from the internet for many books instead, see Batch updating book details.
Duplicate current book (Ctrl+D) copies the card you are on. Useful for a second copy of the same edition, or as a starting point for the next volume in a series.
