Dear All My Movies users!
I would like to present to your attention utility which I have called AMM Database Manager. Main reason for its creation was the fact that while All My Movies is an excellent program, but it is not perfect. At some point I realized that I seriously need to take care of cleaning up the database. Since AMM is using for data storage standard MS Access format and I'm a professional database application developer, I decided to create utility myself - just the way I like it. During development and while browsing through this forum's topics, I realized I was not the only one to encounter similar issues. So I decided to polish my utility in order it can be offered to other AMM users. So, what is AMM Database Manager?
It is a combination of database viewer, but with enhanced filtering, searching, groupping and sorting capabilities. DM allows to edit movie card in similar manner to AMM, but include some improved features like easy changing of movie's main genre, which is sort of difficult in AMM. DM also includes several functions for batch processing, similar to those found in Mass plugin but with enhanced options and performing considerably faster. Another group of functions is intended to manage directories (lookup tables) of names, genres, countries, media types, media locations, friends. They include genre merging, countries merging, countries splitting (e.g. Germany / Austria / UK), splitting names into main and alternative, swapping main and alternative name, finding and merging duplicates in names directory, names clean-up, etc.
In order to run AMM Database Manager you need to have MS Access 2002 or 2003 installed on your computer. The utility was designed as Access Application and it cannot work without MS Access. Unfortunately that excludes (at least for now) those users who don't have MS Access.
The utility was already offered for beta-testing to some users on russian forum and received positive feedback. In addition I sent my utility to the author of All My Movies for evaluation. Hope he can voice his opinion here.
Below you can find two links. The first one has an album with the main screenshots of the application, so you can take a look at program's interface and decide for yourself whether you need this utility or not. The second link has zip file with utility and installation program.
Installation instructions:
Download and extract the contents of the zip file. There are two files inside the archive: AMM Manager 2003.mde (application itself) and ActiveXSetup.exe. First of all run ActiveXSetup.exe. - this will install neccessary components. After that you can launch the utility by double-clicking on AMM Manager 2003.mde and it will be opened in MS Access. On the first run utility will prompt you for the location of the database (file with extension .amm). In my opinion utility's interface is easy and intuitive. If you have questions on how to use utility I will be happy to explain. If there is an interest for my application, I might create a brief manual.
WARNING: Backup your database prior to using Database Manager. As any other program, it might contain bugs and I don't want you to blame me that I screwed up your data.

Hi there
I'm very interested in your Access solution for manipulating the AMM database. I too did find some functionality missing or disturbing which could be solved by using Acces Forms or code.
I could however not get any more info due to failing links in the posts.
Please repost correct links. |

Hi JanDoedel
I have corrected the link to album with application screenshots. Please take a look. The screenshots are a little outdated, they are in fact of the version 1.4, and current version is 1.11, but they will give you a general idea. Since version 1.4 a lot of new features had been added. Unfortunately, since there were no interest in the English forum, I didn't bother posting updates on new features/functionality of the utility. On the Russian forum this topic is way more active, people are using my utility, posting suggestions and reports on bugs found. So, I significantly enhanced and improved some functions, added new features, etc. I'm planning to release new version soon.
Thanks for your interest. Let me know if you find the utility useful. |

Could you fix the download link. I get the following error:
"No shared folders are available.
Sorry, the owner has not enabled any shared folders in their account."
The link is the same as in the russian forum. |

Thanks datasource, for mentioning that there is a new version of your utility!
Everything works fine for me, only the link to http://www.esinex.com/ in the about screen does not show a website about your utility... |

|
|
Hi,
Is there a way to add in Find and Replace some more field like Actors, Audio Stream Info, the reason is when i export my movies in HTML all the ASCII Extended characters are replace by some kind of square and I'd like to replace all the "éâäàåçêëèïîìÄÅÉæÆôöòûùÿÖÜáíóúñ" etc... in every fields that contains these characters, for example all "éêëè" would be replace with the letter "e" and so.
I can copy the field "Actors" to "Comment" then replace all characters but cannot copy the changes made in Comment back to field "Actors" I get a prompt saying "Field Actors can only be used as 'From' field" so i manually have to Cut & Paste from the Comment field to Actors field in All My Movies. I have over a thousand movie to do this way I'm about half way so far and take already few hours to do this.
Another thing that would be nice a "Substring Replacements Table" where you can specify all the change that can automatically be done as i specified a little bit sooner a kind of table where you say change all "é for e" or "à for a" that would save me a lot of time and I'm sure that I'm not the only one.
If this option already exist then i can't find it.
And I love this utilities that you create it work well and i use it a lot and i think that it's Javasript that doesn't like these specific characters
Thanks |

I cannot get this download link to work in either IE8 or Firefox, is this program still active? The version on the Bolide website is from 2007.

I thought my message was a little clearer, this version is 1.11 from 2007, the quoted post states the latest version is 2.5 from 2008. I would like to have the most recent version if possible. |

| I see. Then it's better to apply to the author of AMM Database Manager. He used to be an active user of this forum. |
