To start out with, I created my database and populated the local path field to point to a movie on my local L: drive on my desktop computer. The machine is running Vista. The Play button turns green and the movie plays just fine from within AllMymovies when I click it. Now, I share drive L: give full permissions to network users (both share and NTFS).

My end goal is I want to actually run AllMyMovies & play the movies from the living room while leaving the actual AVI's on the Vista machine with the big hard drives in another room. So I uninstall AllMyMovies from the Vista machine, copy the software & database over to my laptop running XP, which is plugged into the local 100Mbs network. I Map my L: to the drive on the Vista machine that has the movie. The path is now identical (L:\Movies\10\10.avi). The play button is greyed out Sad This is not the first time I've encountered a good path with a greyed out play button in this software, so I use the browse button, and specifically point to the AVI file on network drive L: and click OK - there is a bit longer delay than when I did this on the desktop as the program scans the file, but the program accepts the path with no error. However, the Play button still is greyed out.

I confirm the movie and path is good...it can play over the network just fine by clicking on the AVI on the L: drive from explorer. The player is fine, the path is fine, permissions OK, the movie is not corrupted, the network is fast enough to allow the movie to play at full speed. But AllMyMovies will NOT play the thing.

So as a double check, I copy the 10.avi file from L: to the local C: drive on the laptop, go back into the Local path and point to it on C: with the browse button. Voila. The play button goes green and the movie plays

Conclusion: The Play button doesn't work when movies are on a network path. It is not a file association problem - I have another program that lauches the movie off drive L: just fine. Any ideas? (Please don't say it's a Vista problem - I feel certain I could reproduce the error on 2 XP machines)

The Play button is green for the networked files when they has in local path value like this: \\computername\path\file.avi

Mapped network drives has not been tested yet.
I think we'll fix it
