So I've been using this program a while now, and I do love it over some of the other ways I have used in the past. I emailed support a few times, but with the exception of the first time, have never heard anything back, so I decided maybe I will post in the forum. So this is just a list of my questions and comments about the program (some might have been answered already elsewhere, and if so, please point me there ... I searched but didn't find anything):

1. When looking up the information for a given Actor/Director/Etc, you can only differentiate one person. I realize this is not really a fault of the program, since the IMBD listings do not show the different people, but it would be great to have an option in the future to have it check the people's links to get a number.

What I mean is if I look up Trey Parker (South Park, BASEketball), I can no longer get the information for Trey Parker (Newsies), unless I manually go to Newsies, change Trey Parker to Trey Parker II, then look up their information. This is one example, and not one that I'd expect to happen all that often, but one that could be confusing to say the least.

EDIT: This problem seems known, and my solution seems to be the only workaround, unless IMDB suddenly changes their cast list setup or this program looks at links, which would add time to getting movie details. (source=here)

2. A Double Rating System. With the current setup, it automatically gets the ratings from (in my case) IMDB. I'd love the option of having a second rating below it in star format, though for now, making my own custom field is working out fine.

3. Make the statistics page printable. This might not be important to some, but I'd love to be able to print out a copy of my statistics, without having to cut and past screenshots to get all the information.

4. Multi-Movie/Disc Sets: When scanning in a barcode for a set (example: The Nightmare on Elm Street Collection), the program gets the right box art, but I noticed that it only downloads the information for the first movie. I'd love to see some way to either have it download all the information and consolidate it in an easy to distinguish manner, or to even go as far as to allow an option of putting each disc as its own subcategory within a title.

I'm currently getting around this problem by downloading the cast details for each movie in any given set individually, then pasting them all together (and thankfully, the program automatically eliminates duplicate names), then having each movie synopsis as its own episode listing according to disc. This process, however, isn't the quickest or most user friendly, so hopefully it can be improved down the line.

5. Episodes/Seasons: For some reason, if an episode or season number is selected, there is no way to delete is. This doesn't matter for some things, but there are times when a show only had 1 season, so there is no need to have it say 'Season 1, Episode XX', yet deleting the season number from an episode and clicking OK does not remove the season number at all.

6. Ability to print multiple select titles. Maybe I am just missing something, but short of selecting the movies I want, saving as a new database of their own, then loading and printing that database, it seems I am either limited to printing 1 movie or my entire list. I'd love the ability to apply a filter and print just movies that are labeled "DVD" or just movies from the year "1996" (as examples).

That's all for now. I'm on v5.9 build 1293. Hopefully some of these things can either be worked on in future updates.

Hi, moviemadnessman!

Thanks for detailed description of your suggestions.

1. As for 1, unfortunately there's no other way to differentiate persons.

2-3 are already in the plans for AMM version 6.

4. Could you provide the example of such a barcode?

5. I think we'll try to make it possible to avoid displaying the number in the movie description area if there's only one season.

6. This option is already available and works fine. So, filter your collection, for example using menu item "Quick filter" and you print only the movies selected (menu item Movie-Print collection).

Hi Gemini,

Thanks for getting back to me. In order:
1. I figured as much, though it is more of an annoyance than anything.
2/3. That's great to hear.
4. Certainly. Using the Alien-Predator Total Destruction Collection (amazon link here), it is a set that contains 8 movies, each in their own case (though only the outer box has a barcode, which is 024543544449).

Scanning in that barcode will pull up the correct box art from amazon.

However, it will only pull up the information for the movie "Alien", with no additional information for "Aliens", "Alien3", or any of the other 5 movies in that particular box set. I'll post pictures of how I'm (hopefully temporarily) getting around it.

Maybe something that pulls up each disc or movie as its own subwindow or something would work. I'm not really sure how it would be implemented, of course ... in this case, each disc is its own movie, but other examples have multiple movies per disc, so it would be more difficult. Just something I noticed, though, since it almost defeats the point of scanning in a box set if you still have to manually collect the information for each movie in the collection.

5. It's just odd that once a season, or even episode number is set, you cannot delete it. I've tried deleting a number, and it just assigns it to 0, but it still displays. Don't know why that is, but it seems like it is being worked on.

6. I updated and it seems to work fine now ... not sure why it didn't want me to print select filters earlier. However, I can't seem to figure out an effective way to have multiple filters active at once. For example, if I tell the program to only show me "Unseen Movies", it shows only movies that haven't been marked as seen. However, I can't find a way to display both movies that are "Unseen" AND movies with the media label as "BluRay", for example. As such, I can't print off a list of movies on BluRay that I haven't seen yet (using this purely as an example). I even tried the "Search Movie (F3)" function, but it only allows me to select 1 media type, and doesn't even have an option for seen/unseen.

EDIT: The only filters that seem to not be able to overlap (using the F3 search) is Media type (such as showing VHS and HDDVD), and anything with the "Unseen" filter.

Thanks for the great program.

One new suggestion in regards to multiple-movie sets: It would be nice if the program could somehow count box sets for a total movie list. As an example, using the screenshots I posted, it looks like my collection has 1135 movies (still have a ways to go to finish getting them all in there). However, the "Alien-Predator" collection only counts as 1 title, instead of the 8 that it technically would be. I think this could be as simple as adding new counter along the lines of "Movie Count=X" (default 1 if not user defined), and then having a total counting those variables. It could even be kept separate so it could show something like "1207 movies in 1135 entries" or something along those lines. Just a possible thought for a future update.

Any word on the multiple movie set question and the total count question? It's been almost a month with no reply, so I thought I'd check back to see how things are progressing.

Also, something I've come to notice with AMM 5.9 build 1295 is that it imports movie taglines into the "Comments" section. Is there a way to disable that (or can one be added)...or could a new section be added to the info called "Tagline" and place it there, leaving the comment section free? Previous builds did not put anything in the comment section, leaving it free for my own personal comments. Thanks. [If I get information for a title I previously entered in order to update the box art, for example, and I don't have a comment already, it adds the tagline in the Comment box. However, if I have comments in there already, it doesn't add anything...would still be nice to have a seperate box for the Tagline]

It would also be nice to have a button to update just the boxart image. If I switch my cover site from one site to another, or if it fails to find a cover at one site, it would be nice to have the program either automatically check another location (as it does when adding movies by barcode), or to check the other site for just the movie art (for movies already added). Currently if no art is found at Amazon, I need to change the general settings to another DVD Cover site, then get the info again (which, coupled with the above request, means I lose my comments for the movie tagline), just to get the correct cover (or a better one). Hope this is understandable; got a bit wordy on it.

EDIT: The ability to choose what extra information the program gets ... in Settings>Online Databases, there is now an option to have the program get more information. Enabling this gets all the cast names (which it used to in previous builds), but now it gets the movie descriptions as typed by other people (rather than the 1-2 line summary it used to get). I like having all the cast members, but don't really care about how other people describe the movie. If this is possible to add to a future build, I'd appreciate it.

Hi!
Sorry for this delay!
As for total movie count question, it's being considered at the moment, because we can't reproduce it.
As for Taglines, you can't switch it off in the current version and we'll consider the idea of adding the special field Taglines.
The idea of a separate button for searching the right boxart is good. So far after saving a movie card you can press F2 to search only boxart image.
