Hi,
I don't have Microsoft Excel on my computer, I have OpenOffice which is equivalent and free. It can read ANY file from Microsoft Office (xls and so on).
But when I want to export a database to Exce formatl I get an error message saying that I "should have Excel on my computer to do that". Is there a way to do it?
Which leads me to this question :
Is it possible to create a smaller database from a big one (for example have all the movies with an actor in a separate database), or split a database in two or more. If it is, please explain step by step how to do it.
Cheers |

If Excel is not installed on you PC, export to Excel is impossible. However you can try to export to csv (plaintext) and then open it with OpenOffice.
As for database division, the database size mainly increases due to the images in it. If you delete actors, it will not significantly reduce the database file size. Besides, images can be stored separately from the database file, in a separate folder. For that at the tab "Expert options" in Preferences there's a special option.
And one more thing - if you are going to delete images manually, then don't forget to use menu Database-Compress right after deleting.

Thx Gemini, but you didn't understand my question.
Let's say I have a big AMM databasewith 500 movies in it. I don't want to delete anything. I want to split it in 2 different databases (like for instance one for american films and one for foreign films). How do I do that?
Another example : besides my main database I want to create a new one where I will list all the films from 2005 and 2006. How do I export from one database to another. In other words, how do you export from .amm to .amm? |

Okay, I see.
Then create a new database, open it and use menu item "Database-Append from" to add the movies into the new database from the already existing one. But you'll have to delete them from the existing database manually.

I hope you realize how ridiculously tedious it is to have to uncheck manually 450 movies in order to keep 50.
Why don't you put a "Save as..." in the Database Menu like there is one in 99% of the programs of the planet. This way you could select a group of movies and save them with a different database name.
You guys seem nice and of good will but I can't believe you actually ask for money for such an imperfect and amateurish software. |
