I'm running the latest version of AMM (at the time of this writing, anyway): V5.8 Build 1292. I've stumbled upon a glitch when you get two people in the Names Directory with the exact same name.

I like to download details about the actors, directors and writers associated with the movies in my database. My database currently includes several movies directed by John Hughes.

Recently, I added Nineteen Eighty-four, directed by Michael Radford. The cast list includes an actor named John Hughes. This is not the same John Hughes who directed some of those other movies. Both "John Hughes" are in my Names Directory.

When I look at the movie card for Nineteen Eighty-four, the name John Hughes is bolded, because he exists in the Names Directory. However, when I mouse over the name, I get the picture and bio for John Hughes the director, not John Hughes the actor. The program seems to be simply picking up the first matching name that it finds in the Names Directory which, in this case, is the wrong person.

My suggestion would be that the program should check for duplicate names in the Names Directory and, if it finds more than one, it should prompt for which name to link to.

Thanks for your ideas!
Btw, you can help the program understand this having manually added some symbol to their names before saving the movie card. For example, add (I) to one of them, and (II) - to the other. Automatically the program cannot recognize that they are different people.

It is still in the plans... Smile Could you suggest some good game online databases to import game details from?

Good Evening. I have read in the forum that if someone was to write a template for the program there is a chance to receive a free copy of the program. I have done a small survey to find out what order people would like the movie information in. Based on that survey I have put together a template which I am currently using and find it to be very usefull. I hope you like it, I have spent the last 2 weeks working on it everyday. I am not sure how you would like me to send you the template.

Hey, some really good ideas for this would be to...
1.) add sub categories/ playlists... like itunes does, for example.. you add movies to the subcategory... and name it "Kids Movies" so then you can put all of the movies that are meant for kids in there...
2.) be able to sort movies on star rating, runtime, year, PG PG-13 R NC-17, ect..
3.) For the movies that do not have a cover (like home made movies) there should be the title of the file on the white dvd cover... just so you can tell what it is without clicking on it...
4.) Password Protect individual files, for ex. movies you do not want your kids to see... or be able to have parent control where they can only watch PG movies and then for other movies (PG-13, R, NC-17) it requires a password...
5.) Password protect the playlists/subcategories (the thing mentioned in "1.)")
6.) When you search the databases it would be nice to have a preview of the one you look at to see which movie is yours, and same when picking the cover, because if you pick the wrong one then you have to restart... kind of a pain.. so this would make it more convenient

Thank You very much and i hope you take these considerations... I was on a forum for a movie sharing website (discussing movies) and there was a new thread for movie organization.. there were many ppl wanting a program to do all the features mentioned above and others that ALl My Movies already does.. THANKS!! =)

I am using AllMyMovies 5.9 Build 1293 in standard html style.

1.
It would be nice if the following bug can be fixed:
You cannot use the scrollbar if the movies are grouped by media location. So it is ok, if you click on the arrow to go down, but you cannot move the scrollbar by clicking on the bar and moving it down or up.

2.
Furthermore it would be nice to fix another small bug in combination with the standard html stylesheet.
So if you add a series, you will see the nice eye icons, that can be checked or unchecked. But after checking one eye icon the complete site is reloaded and you get at the beginning of the page. So if you want to check several episodes you must always scroll down after every checking...
Another solution for this problem could be enabling the marking of more than one episodes in the movie details and then check the Seen Button there.

3.
It would be nice if the rating is shown as a decimal number (like this is at imdb), but this would be only for a better looking.

4.
Another nice feature: If you set the number of media, for example 2, then there should be a way to select two medias in the local path field. So I have several movies which are splitted into two or more parts. So then I could open all parts out of the software. The additional informations like film length, file size and so on, can be sumed up, the codec informations should be the same.

So, thanks for the really good software and sorry for my bad english.

i didnt notice the bugs for 1 and 2...

i disagree with number 3 i like the star rating with the picture instead of the decimals... i think its better... but maybe if yall could but the star rating and then under put the decimal... just a thought

i agree with you on number 4... that would be really nice... especially for TV Shows... cuz i dnt wanna see every episode on the book shelf... i wud like to see the Show and then the season... then when i click on it.. see all the episodes in list form...

I agree with you that the star rating is a nice feature. But it has a big problem. Behind the star pictures only a multiple of tens is saved (so: 10,20,30 ..., 100). If you then sort the movies by rating you cannot recognize if a movie has a 8,1 or 8,9 and sometimes this is a big difference. If you disable the star rating you can see these numbers (like 10,11,12,...89, 99, 100). But here I would like to see the decimal numbers.

ok, then some thoughts about your ideas.
1) hm, I don't need this feature, but it sounds interesting.
2) It is possible to sort the movies by rating?! And furthermore it is possible to group the movies by year. So I think that this is ok so.
3) That would be really a nice feature. But then the placeholder image should have variable dimensions (height and weight), so that you can adapt the image to the size of your chosen cover dimensions.
4) & 5) Hm, I don't need a password protection, but perhaps other people like this.
6) sounds interesting.

PostPosted: Wed Mar 17, 2010 9:27 pm    Post subject: Two more things Reply with quote

There are two more things I would like to tell you:

If you use the "Update imdb rating" function and the connection is aborted before the updating process has been completed, then the movie title of the actual edited movie is deleted. This is a problem because the connection to imdb is often interrupted (if there are hundreds or thousands of movies). And then you must always fill out the movie title if the connection was interrupted.

And in connection to this. So it is possible to mark multiple movies and then update only these movies, but sadly it is not possible to mark movies with the aid of pressing "Shift + Page Up" or "Shift + Page Down". Then the marking would be easier.

And furthermore if you use the "Update imdb rating" function in combination with a series all episodes of a series are loaded into the movie entry. This is too bad, because in my movie database every season has its own entry. So now I must edit every season to delete the wrong added episodes that are not part of this season. So the Update rating function should only update the rating and not other things like missing episodes.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Could it be possible to add a menu option to manually trigger a rebuild of the cover thumbnails?

I've had odd occasions where the database has become corrupted in such a way that the covers get jumbled up.

It will display one dvd cover image, but when you roll over, the real cover is then displayed. This is normally fixed when the program rebuilds the thumbnails, but the circumstances when this is automatically triggered aren't certain to me.
