Since a long time I get the message when starting AMM, to save the images outside the database (1.99 Gb).
When I try this I always get the same message: too little memory. (4 Gb on W7) (In the Taskmanager I gave AMM high priority)
So I tried to split the database in 2 equal parts. But when joining the two (now with the images apart in Myfilms_images) I have lost half of the covers, about 1500!)
What to do??
Please help,

Hi, Treg!
Well, I see. We'll think what can be done about the pictures when using "Append from" option...
It would be better if you didn't divide the database in two, but took some ten or so movies and moved them to another database, then removed from the large database, make for it the menu item "Database-Compress" and try again to take pictures into a separate folder using the options in Preferences-"Expert options" tab.

Thanks for your response! I'll try to do what you suggested -since dutch is my native language, I repeat the actions I'm going to fullfill:
To move 10 films out of my database, I shall make a new database, and use the Add function to place that 10 films in the new database and after that I shall delete them from the original database. After deleting and compressing I'll try again to use the Expert Option to move out the images.
Is that what you meant?
...........
I did so and unfortunately Iget the same error: insufficient memory
Friendly regards,

It sounds a little like your are running into the Windows FAT32 file system limit of 4 GBs.
I don't know this program well yet, so there may be other answers.
One solution might be to partition part of your hard drive to NTFS and move the database to there.
There is not way to bypass the 4GB limit on file size if your disk has been partitioned as FAT32. |

Thanks Knightrider for your reaction!
But my system runs already on a NTFS partition, so that can't be the solution!

It's very strange.....however i'm a registered user of All my movies and this problem is fundamental - i mean everybody with a database which comes near 2 Gb, has to cope with the problem I have and the helpdesk of Bolidesoft keeps silent.....!!
Keep that in mind when you want to decide for this program: no help from Bolide Software!!!
Sorry to mention this, but now it will cost me about a year to make a new database!! |

You see in order to find the error which caused the loss of covers, the details are needed. When you joined two databases, whether the option "store images inside the database" in both databases was turned off for both halfs?
If your collection was picked up from IMDb, then there is a way to automatically download the infor including covers. To do that, turn off "Download large cover images" option Preferences and use menu item "Tools-Update IMDb details".
If it was not IMDb, then I'm afraid there is no fully automatic way to download all the covers, the only way is to press F2 for all the movies without a cover...

Gemini,
Thanks for reacting. I do not loose the covers, but the program does warn you when the database is to big (2 Gb). The Expert function to export the images (covers and screenshots) results in a loss of the covers.
I diminished the number of film to 2200 and the export succeeds, but....when I manually add the database of the remaining 700 films (Which I had to delete from the original database to succesfully export the images) all the images are mixed through and the database becomes useless!!
No hope left...?

It's not quite clear which Expert function you're talking about...
Do you use "Database-Append from..." function to unite two databases or you divide and unite the databases somehow else? |

Ok, I found the reason for the problem.
All my Movies has been built using the Microsoft Access Application.
Found this out as when opening my database getting a small file with the extension ldb (Microsoft Office Access Record-Locking Information (.ldb))
The max database size that MS access is built to handle is 2GB
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access/HP051868081033.aspx
THIS being the case, is there software built into the application that would automatically export and link all covers into a relative folder stored next to the database.
I am thinking that i will run into the same issues in a few months |

Thanks K. for your interesting information. Don't wait to long with exporting your images out of the database! It will cost you lots and lots of time to regain it!!
Succes!

Hi,
I create a new db and I add films from the existing database. It's very inconvenient, because I can't use the 'shift'-option to mark the 2200 films with one click - yes indeed, I've to mark them separately!!
Then I use the export function (Expert option) to place the images in a separate directory (ie: New_images)
That worked and I got a db, with 2200 of the 2900 in the original db, covers on the right place. So I tried to add the 700 and then it goes wrong: all the images are mixed and appear on the wrong film.
Because of the fact that my film collection grew and I couln't add them to the original db (with 2900 records) I started a new database from which i hoped to import it when the problems were solved, but now i'm afraid that these 350 films must be cataloged again also...
I also tried the Amm manager database, but I'm not acquainted with MS Access.
I hope you will bring this problem to the developers of AMM and I think the warning that the database is near 2 Gb should come earlier, on the moment the program is capable to fullfill its promises: to export the images. With a 2 Gb database it doesn't work.
Please your reaction!
Friendly,

I did have a play with the database and found something you might be interested in
Under Tools / Preferences / Advanced options.
There is a check box " Store all the images inside the database"
After backing up the database I unchecked it.
I have the actual database file in a folder called "Movie Database"
After unchecking the option the application created a new folder called "move images" under the "Movie Database" folder and moved all images to there.
This reduced the size of my database to around 3000 KB,s and the movie images folder to just over 600 MB
Although the images names in the new folder loose any meaningful name
The images still show up correctly in the database. (point to the correct location)
I believe access uses relative address paths.
So the movie images folder and your database will need to remain with in the same folder.
So to reiterate by storing all images outside the database. The database size should drop to MB's in size, while creating a images file GB,s in size.
You would need to remember to back up the images folder manually every-time you make a database backup.
Could be worth your trouble to try the same solution.
I moved the folder containing the images and database file to a different location to avoid mix up, then added a new movie and changed a poster successfully.
hope you find this helpful |
